ODOT Teen (15-17) and Adult Program

The 6 weeks ODOT program consists of in-person classes and behind-the-wheel lessons.


DMV requirements to obtain a license for 15-17 years old students in the course:

  • Be 16 years old
  • Hold an instruction permit for at least 6 months
  • Complete 50 hours supervised driving practice

DMV will waive the drive test for students 15-17 year old completing the driver education course.


EVENING CLASSES Classroom hours - 3 hours twice a week Mondays and Tuesdays 4:30-7:30 in REDMOND only.  Behind-the-wheel lesson is 2 hours a week - see behind-the-wheel schedule for availability before registration. (Go to class schedules)  This is a 2-3 day a week commitment for students.  


MORNING CLASSES (Redmond High School students ONLY).  Classes on M-F during 1st period. Behind-the-wheel lesson is 2 hours a week - see behind-the-wheel schedule for availability before registration. (Go to Class schedules)


Important! Please take a look at your student's schedule before signing up. It is a 6 week course, student attendance is essential for course completion.  

Students must hold a valid Oregon instruction permit issued from the DMV to attend the course.  Student must attend all classroom and behind-the-wheel lessons to waive the DMV drive test for students under 18 years old.  

  • 30 hours of classroom instruction
  • 6 hours behind-the-wheel training
  • 6 hours back seat observation 


ODOT REQUIREMENTS:  Mandatory parent meeting is required. This meeting must be attended by a parent, legal guardian, or supervising adult with the student. For the first hour we will cover the ODOT program requirements, traffic safety information, policies, procedures, and curriculum. After the first hour of orientation, students will remain and complete their first day of class.  (18 + year old parent meeting not required).  

At the completion of the course, DMV will waive the drive test to get a license for 15-17 year old.  If you are 18+ year old taking the course a DMV drive test is required after completion of course.  

  • Payment in full is required at the time of registration.  
  • Without payment student is not registered with a saved behind-the-wheel schedule (please contact Linda first before registration if you need a payment plan/option)


NOTE - If your students turns 18 during the course or is 18 years old or older attending they will be required to take the DMV drive test. See DMV site for scheduling drive test.

18 year old + are not required to follow the ODOT teen course schedule but are welcome to attend the classes to learn the rules, laws of our roadways, build confidence and awareness.


Classroom In Person Instruction

  • Mondays and Tuesdays 4:30-7:30 (Summer AM 9:00-12:00)
  • Redmond High School students ONLY 1st period (Monday-Friday)
  • Students must attend all classroom hours for the ODOT program.  Any absences/missed coursework must be made up within 15 days of the end of the term.

Behind-The-Wheel Instruction

  • Behind-the-wheel training is intended to apply the skills following classroom instruction. Routes specifically designed to implement learned concepts and to challenge the student. Students are evaluated and instructed with feedback during the weekly drive lessons.  
  • 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training per student with instructor and student observer       (6th drive is the final drive assessment)
  • 6 hours of rear seat observation 
  • 5 hours of supervised home practice drive log to complete the course
  • Grading - students must demonstrate the ability to perform critical driving tasks
  • All PRNDL vehicles are dual control, 2023 Vehicles

15-17 and 18 + year old - $699.00 ODOT 6 weeks course

ADDITIONAL FEES

$40 Missed drive fee - less than 24 hour notice or a NO SHOW

$40 Re-test, assessment or an extra drive lesson in the course

REFUNDS

Refunds in full are available until the end of the first class.  After the first class, no refunds.

COURSE FAILURES AND REPEATS

Classroom and Final drive assessment failures can be retaken within 180 days from the courses original start date. Arrangements will be made depending on individual circumstances.
